Jetstar will launch the first direct low-fares flights between Australia and Sri Lanka, with its inaugural Melbourne to Colombo service departing today.
To commemorate the inaugural flight, Jetstar is launching a 48-hour sale with fares from $319 one-way starting midday on 25 August.
The new year-round service will operate three times a week, adding more than 100,000 low-fares seats between Melbourne and Colombo, making it easier for Australians to visit Sri Lanka for less.
The sale includes selected travel dates from mid-February 2027. The flights from Melbourne to Colombo and vice versa operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. From 25 August to 3 Oct 2026, flights from Melbourne to Colombo depart at 12:00 and arrive by 17:50. Flights from Colombo to Melbourne depart 19:50 and arrive 10:00+1.
The airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, which is undergoing upgrades, will operate the flights. The upgrades will double the number of business class seats and introduce onboard Wi-Fi. Also, a new lie-flat crew rest area will allow flights of up to 16 hours, opening the door to more long-haul destinations in the future.
