Jetstar launches its 48-hour 20th birthday sale, with more than 200,000 ‘return for FREE’ sale fares available to celebrate two decades of affordable air travel.

Jetstar’s 20th ‘Birthday Return for FREE’ sale allows customers to book a Starter fare and get a return Starter fare for nothing i.e. $0.

The offer covers 64 domestic and 33 international destinations. Domestic fares where a free return flight is available include: Sydney to Ballina Byron from $86; Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Launceston from $87; Sydney to Gold Coast from $99; Newcastle to Melbourne (Tullamarine) from $124; Gold Coast to Melbourne (Tullamarine) from $125; and Perth to Gold Coast from $262.

On international legs, its covers Gold Coast to Wellington from $243; Brisbane to Auckland from $266; Perth to Bangkok from $309; Perth to Phuket from $329; Adelaide to Bali (Denpasar) from $349; Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Singapore from $399; Sydney to Honolulu from $449; Brisbane to Seoul (Incheon) from $479; and Sydney to Osaka from $548.

Travel dates vary per route but include mid-January to late March 2025 for domestic flights and mid-June 2024 to late March 2025 for international services.

The sale runs for 48 hours, starting at 12.00am AEST Wednesday 1 May 2024 and ending at 11.59pm AEST Thursday 2 May 2023, unless sold out prior.

The best fares are expected to sell out fast, but Club Jetstar* members will have 12 hours exclusive early access from midday today. Travellers can sign up to become a Club Jetstar member at Jetstar.com when making a booking.

Jetstar Group CEO, Stephanie Tully, said the airline is proud to be celebrating 20 years of democratising air travel through low fares with a huge sale.

“Since launching in 2004, Jetstar has enabled hundreds of millions of Australian passengers to travel to more places, more often for less.

“Jetstar’s annual Birthday Sale is always one of our biggest sales of the year and has grown increasingly popular with customers over the past two decades.

“As we celebrate our 20th birthday, we’re excited to be embarking on a new era of low fares travel with more new aircraft, new routes and a new uniform to come this year – all while still offering incredibly low fares.”

The sale comes as the airline releases a remake of its original ‘Let’s Fly Jetstar’ advertisement from 20 years ago.

The new advert features an updated jingle ‘We Fly Jetstar’ as well as a cast of Jetstar customers and crew with references throughout the ad to some of the airline’s best moments from the past 20 years.

In March, the airline announced a “casting call”, inviting customers to submit their favourite Jetstar travel stories. More than 400 people submitted stories and three winners were chosen to star in the ad.

Among those who took part in the advert was father and daughter, Tony and Jade Neal from Cameron Park outside Newcastle in NSW. They were passengers on the very first Jetstar flight on 25 May 2004 when Jade was just two years old.
