Jetstar Sydney-Seoul flights take off

Jetstar’s sold-out inaugural flight from Seoul to Sydney landed yesterday, making the airline the first low-cost carrier to offer a direct connection between South Korea and Australia.

Jetstar will operate three return services a week, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, carrying up to 100,000 travellers each year between the two cities.

The new route recognises the increasing popularity of South Korea as a destination for Aussie travellers as well as the enduring popularity of Sydney for South Korean travellers.

Jetstar Airways’ chief customer and commercial officer, Alan McIntyre, said he expected the introduction of the route would see South Korea added to the travel wish list of many Australians.

“We’ve seen huge demand for this service as our customers get excited about international travel once again,” McIntyre said.

“We know that the absence of a low-cost, direct link between South Korea and Australia has been a barrier for many travellers but our direct low-fares service makes visiting both South Korea and Australia more convenient, affordable and accessible than ever before.”

The service has been made possible with the support of NSW Government and Destination NSW.

Next month, Qantas will also launch direct flights to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, meaning both business, premium leisure and low-cost travel options between Australia and Korea will be available to travellers.

Qantas will begin direct flights between Sydney and Seoul from 10 December 2022 with its A330 aircraft, marking the first Qantas scheduled service to Seoul since January 2008.
