Journey Beyond has officially unveiled its new Aurora Australis Suites, hosting a carriage christening and VIP rail journey through South Australia to mark the launch.
Luxury travel media and key trade partners were invited aboard for an exclusive day trip from Adelaide to the Clare Valley, offering a first look at the new suite category and onboard experience.
The launch kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and champagne sabrage, before guests stepped onboard to explore the new Australis and Aurora Suites, along with the Platinum lounge. The experience included canapés and pours of Champagne Bollinger La Grande Année as attendees toured the carriage and sampled the upgraded offering.
The itinerary also doubled as a preview of the newly announced northbound The Ghan journey, with the train travelling to the Clare Valley for a private lunch at the Watervale Hotel.

The updated four-day northbound itinerary will include a signature outback dinner in a traditional woolshed, created by Watervale Hotel owners. chef Nicola Palmer and sommelier Warrick Duthy, with a focus on local produce, wine and sustainability.
Journey Beyond executive general manager marketing Justine Lally said the launch reflects the operator’s continued investment in premium rail.
“The day marked a true celebration, underscoring Journey Beyond’s unwavering commitment to redefining Australian rail travel,” Lally said.
“The new Australis Suite and Aurora Suite set a new benchmark for space, design and service, elevating Australia’s iconic rail journeys and placing them firmly among the world’s leading luxury rail experiences.”
Executive general manager of rail David Donald said the suite experience goes beyond interiors, despite design by global firm Woods Bagot blending Art Deco influences with materials inspired by the Australian landscape.
“Luxury is in the details,” Donald said.

“From personalised butler service and private in-suite dining to a curated in-room bar tailored to each guest’s preferences, every element has been thoughtfully considered.”
Suite guests will also have access to exclusive off-train experiences, including a helicopter flight over Nitmiluk National Park’s Katherine Gorge, followed by a private champagne landing in the outback.
Executive general manager sales and partnerships Alicia Triggs officially christened the carriage with a sabrage.
“This is definitely a champagne moment I won’t forget,” Triggs said.
“It’s not every day you get to christen a carriage on a train.”
Triggs added demand has been strong, with 2026 departures nearly sold out and 2027 bookings now open.
