Journey Beyond has unveiled a new three-division organisational structure and senior leadership team, as the business completes a period of rapid expansion as it’s set to have doubled in size by the end of 2026.
The restructure consolidates the group’s portfolio into three aligned business divisions – Rail & Touring, Resorts & Lodges, and Experiences & Attractions – designed to sharpen accountability and strengthen leadership as the company scales.
“As Journey Beyond continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that our organisational model and leadership structure are designed to support the significant growth ahead,” said group CEO Chris Tallent. “This new structure sees our individual brands and operations logically grouped into three aligned and larger business divisions to ensure we are focused on the areas that matter most for our long-term strategy.”
Central to the restructure is the promotion of Matt Cameron-Smith to a new group-wide role of chief commercial officer. Currently CEO of Voyages Tourism Australia, Cameron-Smith will take responsibility for commercial and revenue strategy across the entire Journey Beyond portfolio.
David Donald has also been promoted to managing director – Rail & Touring. Having led the rail business for the past six years, Donald will now oversee an expanded division bringing together Journey Beyond’s iconic rail journeys – including The Ghan and Indian Pacific – with premium touring operators Outback Spirit and Grand Pacific Tours.
The Resorts & Lodges division will manage an expanding portfolio of experiential accommodation including Ayers Rock Resort, eco-luxury Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, Monarto Safari Resort and the group’s remote lodges. The third division, Experiences & Attractions, will unite the group’s Marine & Aviation operations – among them Cruise Whitsundays, Rottnest Express and Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures – with Attractions & Dining, including Melbourne Skydeck and Journey Beyond Cruise Sydney.
Executive search firm Hourigan has been engaged to find managing directors for both the Resorts & Lodges and Experiences & Attractions divisions.
Tallent said the changes laid the groundwork for the company’s next phase.
“This transition supports more integrated, collaborative, and best-practice ways of working and establishes a strong foundation for the further growth ahead for Journey Beyond,” he said.
