A Kenyan politician believes passenger flatulence onboard flights has become such an issue that she wants a law to be passed to help airline crew members cope.
Addressing parliament in Kenya earlier this month Lilian Achieng Gogo said the level of farting within aircraft is an “irritant that is often ignored” and warned it can cause “discomfort and insecurity onboard” if not managed well, according to BBC News.
“Farting is terrible within the plane,” she said.
“We should have systems of the food offered on board and we should have basic medical systems that are able to reduce the level of gas that one can exude within the flight.
“We should have basic provision of medicines like Eno… yes, this should be done and it should be a practice that is embedded in law.”
BBC News reported that the MP also called for paramedics to be present on all flights, as well as the implementation of a system to control passengers’ alcohol consumption.
“The drinking that happens in flights is terrible – it’s worse than what happens here on the ground,” she said.
“People’s medical history should be obtained before they are served certain alcoholic drinks for their own security.”
