The scenic, somewhat isolated and culturally rich Japanese region of Kochi is set to be the focal point of a travel industry webinar for travel agents and leading organisers of MICE.

The event takes place on Wednesday 20 November, at 2pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) and is hosted by the Kochi Prefectural Government and Kochi Visitors and Convention Association. It covers the region’s tour attractions and showcases what the area has to offer Australian visitors.

The Kochi Prefecture is located along a coastal strip on the island of Shikoku, Japan’s fourth largest island, south of the main island Honshu. Its  mountains, pristine rivers, streams and gorges make the region a must-go destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Capital Kochi is a small yet friendly city of around 320,000 and boasts several eye-catching yet historically significant attraction from the majestic Kochi Castle to sandy Katsurahama Beach, home to a hilltop statue of local samurai hero Sakamoto Ryoma.

The castle, initially constructed between 1601-1611, with the main buildings upgraded in 1748, is one of 12 fortresses in Japan to have survived the ravages of time.

Sakamoto was one of the key people to help bring an end to Japan’s infamous feudal age in 1868.

Kochi is also renowned for it vibrant markets, fresh seafood, and colourful and lively annual festivals.
