The Amazing Tastes of Thailand Roadshow is just a week away!

With an amazing selection of expert guests, access to the best and brightest in the travel industry, and an authentic taste of delicious Thailand with sampled eats, this is one South-East Asia focused event you won’t want to miss.

While a big part of the event will be to educate and refresh the dark-matter of its guests of high-achieving travel professionals and savvy wholesalers, the Amazing Tastes of Thailand Roadshow will also be an opportunity to see the fun side in the Land of Smiles.

It’ll also be a night for bloodthirsty, competitive and cut-throat trivia. Just kidding, it’s all smiles and laughs. We mean it. And to prove it, we have just the thing!

Travel Weekly isn’t allowed to give any answers to trivia questions, but we just can’t help ourselves! So, without further adieu, here are three fun facts about the region to keep in mind for later. (Don’t let anyone know we told you.)

There are now 27 Michelin-star restaurants across Thailand

A haven of heritage eats, as well as gastronomic sensations, Thailand boasts a host of world-renowned eats. These include Restaurant Savelberg – headed by Chef-owner Henk Savelberg and Chef de Cuisine Patrick Smoor; L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, home to three-time Michelin starred chef Olivier Limousin; and J’aime by Jean Michel Lorain, headed by its namesake – Jean Michel Lorain – a chef from a line of culinary excellence that has received three Michelin stars.

Qantas and Jetstar’s codeshare has expanded into Thailand

Passengers opting for Qantas or Jetstar flights now have more options for flying between Australia and Thailand, with the announcement of a codeshare between the two airlines.

Qantas has added its code to Jetstar’s Sydney-Phuket, Melbourne-Phuket and Melbourne-Bangkok services, operated by Jetstar’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Passengers travelling between Australia and Thailand can now be able to book the direct Jetstar-operated service between Melbourne/Sydney and Thailand in one direction, with a Qantas-operated service on the return leg.

Bangkok’s traditional name holds the Guinness World Record for the longest place name in the world

At 168 letters long, Bangkok’s traditional name holds the record for the longest place name in the world:

Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit.

Derived from a composition of Polli and Sanskrit root words, it translates as:

City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra’s behest.

The Amazing Tastes of Thailand roadshow will be hosted in Melbourne (15 May), Sydney (16 May) and Brisbane (21 May).
