This week, we learnt that Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets’ newly appointed general manager doesn’t shy away from stairs when it comes to walking.
What are you reading?
I have just started reading Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. Hope to pick up some life lessons and avoid some of the red lights.
What are you watching?
I’m actually not spending much time in front of the TV screen.
What are you listening to?
Chillout Sessions, jazz … anything that helps to wind down after a busy day.
What are you cooking?
My favourites are grilled meat or fish with vegetables or salad, and I love a good pasta as well. I tend to buy my fresh produce locally at the Adelaide Central Market.
How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?
I like to go for walks, especially along the beach or hiking in national parks. Throughout the week. I walk as much as I can, and use stairs wherever possible.
What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?
We all seem to spend more time outside, appreciating nature and the more simple things in life. For many, the daily pace has slowed down and provided more time for reflection and re-adjustment.
What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?
It was a reminder of how important and necessary human connection is, and how it makes you feel when you don’t get enough of it.
What’s your advice for others in the industry on coping with the crisis?
Shift your focus from things you struggle with to new opportunities. Find inspiration in others who adopt to change quickly and succeed.
Where is your favourite domestic travel destination?
Being new to South Australia, there is a long list of great places to discover – it is such a beautiful place to visit or live in. Another trip to the Flinders Ranges is high on the list.
What is the one international travel memory keeping you going through this time?
Strolling through food markets in Asia and absorbing the lively and vibrant street culture.
Where do you want to travel to once international travel restrictions ease up?
It’s been a hectic last 12 months, so I am looking forward to a relaxing beach holiday with lots of great food and warm weather … maybe Thailand.
