Longitude 131° at Uluru-Kata Tjuta has announced the 2025 dates for its popular Artists-in-Residence program in partnership with First Nations Anangu artists at Ernabella Arts.

Longitude 131° holds a privileged, long-term working partnership with the team at Ernabella Arts, which includes commissioning artworks and ceramics, providing funding support for a ceramics tutor, the Artists-in-Residence program and special day tours offering guests the chance to visit the artists in the outback Ernabella studio.

The Artists-in-Residence program sees Indigenous artists travel from Ernabella to stay a few days at the lodge, to paint with a view to World Heritage-listed natural icons Uluru and Kata Tjuta. The experience is a wonderful bonus for guests staying over the residence dates; there is no additional package or booking required.

The 2025 dates are:

  • 3 to 7 March
  • 12 to 16 May
  • 14 to 18 July
  • 15 to 19 September
  • 17 to 21 November

The program offers a chance for guests to see how the artists work and watch the vibrant works take shape in the cool surrounds of the main lodge, where the artists’ completed artworks and ceramics make a colourful complement to the red sands of the outback.

Located some 250km or a 30min scenic flight from Longitude 131°, Ernabella Arts supplies the ceramics, canvases, tiles and spears to the lodge which are seen in guest tents, in the Dune House bar and restaurant and in Spa Kinara. Many artworks are also for sale in the boutique.

Proceeds from the artwork commissions and sales contribute significantly to the broader Ernabella community’s income, ensuring sustainable economic growth and preservation of the culture for its residents.

Since 2016, Baillie Lodges has provided $50,000 annually to support a dedicated mentor for the artists with the aim of establishing a commercially viable, sustainable enterprise at Ernabella Arts.

Longitude 131° General Manager Louise Lanyon said the longstanding partnership and commitment with Ernabella Art had been fostered over many years and was one of joy and a true privilege, for the team, guests and the artists who have all loved the gentle nature of the program offered.

“Our artists in residence program for 2025 will be a wonderful celebration of culture, art and storytelling. This is an exclusive experience for our in-house lodge guests, and we are so grateful for this special friendship,” Lanyon said.
