The cast members of a Netflix reality TV show have copped hefty fines for getting a little too drunk and raunchy on a British Airways flight.
Three stars from the UK’s Too Hot to Handle were arrested upon landing in Heathrow in February after returning from filming on the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Matthew Mawhinney (29), Harry Johnson (28) and Beaux Greenslade (23) were fined nearly $5,500 each for becoming abusive towards cabin crew after the trio were repeatedly asked to wear facemasks and were told they would not be served any more alcohol.
According to BBC News, Mawhinney shouted “look up who my mum is” at flight attendants when he was refused alcohol service.
“Baroness Scotland, I’m a gold card holder – go and get me a drink,” he yelled.
Mawhinney’s mother, Patricia Scotland, is the former attorney general for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has served as secretary-general of the Commonwealth since 2016.
Wales Online reported that after his outburst, Mawhinney did between 10 and 20 push-ups in the aisle.
Johnson and Greendale were also asked to tone it down by cabin crew after they were seen “kissing and behaving intimately”.
One witness told The Independent that they were worried the two were about to perform a sex act.
All three admitted they failed to obey the lawful commands of a pilot during a hearing at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on 30 April.
Judge Deborah Wright said the defendants behaved with a “profound sense of entitlement”.
“You were at the end of a prolonged period of social confinement and that might have had some psychological impact on you and might have been the reason each of you behaved out of character,” Wright said, according to The Independent.
British Airways told Travel Weekly that disruptive or abusive behaviour is never tolerated on board the airline and appropriate action will always be taken.
Too Hot to Handle is a reality TV show where contestants compete to find love for a $100,000 cash prize but lose money if they get intimate with each other.
