Seasoned hotelier Luke Gibbs has been appointed as general manager of The Porter House Hotel Sydney – MGallery Collection.
Gibbs has close to 20 years of experience across respected hospitality brands like Accor, Hyatt and Ovolo. He worked as cluster general manager for Accor Vacation Club and most recently served as general manager of Hotel Morris Sydney (Handwritten Collection).
Taking the helm of The Porter House marks a return to the MGallery brand for Gibbs, who worked as operations manager at The Como Melbourne MGallery by Sofitel for close to two years.
Vice president operations, Pacific for Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems David Fraser said Gibbs’ appointment reflected the heritage-listed hotel’s ambitions for its next chapter.
“Luke has proven himself a commercially driven hotel leader with a track record of operational excellence. He joins The Porter House Hotel at an exciting time for the MGallery brand,” he said.
“This is an exceptional hotel that demands a general manager who understands boutique luxury at its finest, where authenticity, craftsmanship and highly personalised service define the guest experience.”
Gibbs said that the hotel’s history and reputation drew him to the role.
“The Porter House is unlike anywhere else in Sydney; a hotel with a story to tell in every archway and exposed brick wall,” he said.
“I’m excited to build on the wonderful foundations laid here and work with a talented team to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests, while continuing to grow The Porter House’s reputation as one of Sydney’s most compelling heritage accommodation and dining destinations.”
