Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural A330neo flight, MH145, landed at Auckland Airport at 11:25 am local time on 12 March 2025, boasting an impressive load factor of 90 per cent
The A330neo will play a key role in Malaysia Aviation Group’s fleet modernisation strategy and is set to redefine long-haul travel across Australasia and beyond.
Passengers on the inaugural return flight, MH144 from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur, were treated to exclusive Malaysia Airlines goodie bags as part of the airline’s renowned Malaysian Hospitality.
Dersenish Aresandiran, chief commercial officer of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the New Zealand market.
“With the launch of our new A330neo operating four times weekly from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur, we are not only enhancing the travel experience but also reinforcing our vision of being the preferred airline for New Zealanders seeking world-class service and seamless connectivity,” he said. “Our recently launched ‘Time For’ marketing campaign goes beyond celebrating travel; it’s an invitation to explore Malaysia and discover the best of Asia and beyond.
Malaysia Airlines is committed to positioning Malaysia as the ultimate gateway to this vibrant region while showcasing the warmth and diversity of our culture. With curated offerings such as our Best of Asia and Chef-on-Call menus, as well as thoughtfully designed in-flight experiences, we are setting a new standard for memorable journeys that truly embody Malaysian Hospitality. There has never been a better time to travel with Malaysia Airlines.”
The A330neo is the latest addition to MAG’s expanding fleet, one of a total of 20 aircraft scheduled for delivery by 2028.
Equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the aircraft offers a 14 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to its predecessors.
Designed with passenger comfort in mind, the A330neo features 297 seats – 28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class, including 24 extra-legroom seats. Business Class passengers can enjoy an all-suite cabin layout with a 1-2-1 herringbone configuration, complete with privacy doors, thanks to the new Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats.
Enhancing the in-flight experience, the aircraft is fitted with industry-leading amenities, including the FlightPath3D moving map system, which provides real-time tracking and detailed journey insights. A dedicated ‘Kids Mode’ within the in-flight entertainment system ensures young travellers remain engaged throughout the journey. Meanwhile, a comprehensive destination guide offers insights into the culture and history of locations served by the airline.
In keeping with its commitment to passenger convenience, Malaysia Airlines’ A330neo is also equipped with high-speed connectivity, offering complimentary Wi-Fi access across all cabins. Business Class travellers can further indulge in the SkySnacks concept, a self-service selection of light snacks available throughout the flight.
With the arrival of the A330neo, Malaysia Airlines continues to raise the bar for long-haul travel, seamlessly blending innovation, comfort, and the airline’s signature Malaysian Hospitality to create an unparalleled journey for passengers flying between New Zealand and Asia.
