Mandala Hotels & Resorts has been appointed the management company for The Merchant Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals, a new 58-room corporate-boutique hotel opening in May 2026.

Originally announced as Sixty Five Hotel Brisbane, the property has been renamed The Merchant Hotel, a Member of Radisson Individuals to reflect its deep heritage connection to the Roma Street markets precinct and its position as a confident new address for Brisbane’s legal, corporate, and government community.

As the first Radisson Individuals hotel in Queensland, the property marks a significant milestone for Radisson Hotel Group’s expansion in Australia, bringing global distribution strength and loyalty integration to a hotel that remains distinctly and authentically Brisbane.

The story behind the name

he Merchant Hotel, a Member of Radisson Individuals draws inspiration from the storied history of the Roma Street markets precinct, once a thriving hub of trade, exchange, and enterprise that shaped Brisbane’s early commercial identity. The building itself formerly operated as a fruit and vegetable wholesale warehouse; its walls steeped in the commerce that fed a growing city.

Today, that legacy is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The Merchant Hotel, a Member of Radisson Individuals honours the purposeful spirit of the merchants and civic leaders who built the foundations of modern Brisbane, while projecting forward with the confidence and clarity that define the city’s business community today.

Heritage character meets industrial modernity

The hotel’s design philosophy is anchored in a dialogue between past and present. Exposed materiality, warm timber tones, and raw industrial finishes are layered with refined detailing, curated artwork, and precision craftsmanship, creating spaces that feel both rooted in place and unmistakably contemporary.

As a new entrant to Brisbane’s competitive CBD market, The Merchant Hotel offers design-forward, reliable accommodation for corporate, government, and leisure travellers. At a time when Brisbane is cementing its position as a world‑class business destination, the hotel provides more than a place to stay, it offers spaces that work as hard as the people who occupy them.

Bringing expertise to every property

Mandala Hotels & Resorts is Australia’s premier hospitality group, recognised for its strategic investment approach and unwavering commitment to guest experience. With a focus on regional revitalisation and operational excellence, Mandala blends global leadership expertise with a passion for curating distinctive destinations.

“The Merchant Hotel, a Member of Radisson Individuals, represents the calibre of asset that aligns with Mandala’s long‑term commercial strategy,” Mandala Hotels & Resorts chief performance officer Gemma McCourt said.

“Its heritage, design integrity, and CBD positioning create a compelling platform for sustained performance. Partnering with Radisson Hotel Group, through the Radisson Individuals brand, enables us to leverage global distribution and loyalty strength while preserving a distinctly Brisbane identity, a dual advantage that will underpin the hotel’s commercial trajectory from pre‑opening through to stabilisation.”

A global platform with a local soul

As part of Radisson Individuals, Radisson Hotel Group’s collection for independent hotels with distinctive character, The Merchant Hotel benefits from:

  • Global distribution and commercial reach
  • Integration into Radisson Rewards
  • Access to a worldwide network of travellers

While retaining the authentic identity that makes it uniquely Brisbane.

Its opening marks Radisson’s first Individuals‑branded property in Queensland, reinforcing the brand’s growing presence across Australia.
