Tripadvisor have listed the best-rated ‘Thing To Do’ for every country around the world, and vouchercloud have created a map to show off the best the world has to offer when it comes to travel – and not all of them are as you’d expect.
Turns out Fiji can’t be missed for its ziplines and Dijibouti is a must-see for its kayaking, and you can forget about Buckingham Palace, Big Ben or Stonehenge. Apparently the must-see destination in the UK is the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
Germany is similarly well regarded for its history and architecture, yet visitors hold the ‘Miniatur Wunderland’ – the World’s largest model railway, housed in Hamburg – in the highest regard. Similarly, with the whole depth and breadth of USA to explore, visitors rated Central Park higher than anything else.
Not every country throws such a curveball; The Great Wall of China, The Sagrada Familia (Spain), the Taj Mahal (India), Table Mountain (South Africa) and Niagara Falls (Canada) all make an appearance. However, that still leaves the likes of Kazakhstan’s Medeu Skating Rink and Ski Resort as something of a mystery.
Encouragingly, natural wonders are the most common attraction around the world, followed by areas or icons of historic interest:
Natural – 76
Historic – 54
Tourist – 38
Religious – 29
24 beaches also make the cut around the world, alongside 19 museums, 19 national parks or nature reserves, 10 castles or fortresses and 9 waterfalls.
