MarriottInternational has signed an agreement with Greaton Group to debut the Marriott Hotels brand in South Australia. Adelaide Marriott Hotel is set to open in mid-2024 as part of a redevelopment of the Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building.
The hotel will join four other Marriott Hotels in Australia – in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
“Adelaide Marriott Hotel is a milestone signing for Marriott as it represents our entry into a new market with one of our most globally recognised brands. Establishing a presence in Adelaide will provide Marriott the opportunity to meet the growing demand for business and leisure travel in the region. Paired with our wonderful hospitality and the prime location of the development, we anticipate Adelaide Marriott Hotel to be a very attractive option for travellers”, saidRichard Crawford, VP of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific.
Located at the corner of King William and Franklin Streets, in the heart of Adelaide’s Central Business District, the Adelaide Marriott Hotel will be housed in the Adelaide GPO. The hotel will boast a 15-storey tower, with all 285 guestrooms, including 12 suites, offering views of the city skyline and Victoria Square.

The hotel expects to feature two dining venues, offering a variety of culinary options, including an all-day dining restaurant and a lobby bar and lounge. Plans also call for the hotel’s leisure facilities to include a fitness studio and an 18-metre indoor swimming pool.
The hotel expects to feature more than 535 square metres of meeting and event space, including a vast 300 square metre conference ballroom, as well as a 24-hour business centre and executive club lounge – M Club.
“We’re delighted to be establishing a foothold in South Australia’s capital city. Our close to 200 million Marriott Bonvoy members and growing stream of international tourists into South Australia will recognise the signature hospitality that the Marriott brand is synonymous with and be drawn to our flagship hotel in Adelaide as a central base to exploring the many wonders the state has to offer”, saidSean Hunt, Area VP – Australia, New Zealand & Pacific, MarriottInternational.
In addition to announcing its 1000thhotel in the Asia Pacific region this year, Marriott has continued to see exciting growth in Australia, with more than 30 open properties in the country and nearly 20 in the pipeline. In the past year, other brands in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio have debuted in the country, including Moxy, Le Méridien and JW Marriott.
This announcement comes shortly after MarriottInternational chairman of the board, David Marriott, visited Australia to celebrate the company’s growth in the region and commemorate the opening of another brand hotel in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, the W Hotel Sydney.
