Proposed industrial action by ISS Security officers and the United Workers Union has been called off for Brisbane, Canberra and Gold Coast Airport.
Security officers were planning to strike at Brisbane and Gold Coast airports on 19 December and at Canberra airport on 16 December, according to a statement from Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).
The issue concerned a wage negotiation between the security company and its workforce.
But yesterday afternoon, the union and ISS Security reached an in-principle agreement.

“This is great news for the travelling public who will now be able to continue packing for their Christmas holidays,” a spokesperson from Brisbane Airport said.
Brisbane Airport Corporation acknowledged the role ISS Security officers play in maintaining safety at the airport, and thanked them for their commitment.
“Gold Coast Airport is pleased the United Workers Union and ISS have been able to reach a resolution, ahead of the planned industrial action on Monday December 19,” Queensland Airports Limited chief operating officer Marion Charlton said.
“This is the best possible outcome for the tens of thousands of passengers whose long-awaited Christmas travel plans would have been disrupted should the industrial action have gone ahead”.
Between 350-400 security guards were set to strike on Brisbane and the Gold Coast if a deal was not made.
