Melia Hotels International has announced a new hotel resort in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, through an agreement with local real estate developer CityLand Group.
The two companies signed a hospitality management agreement on 20 February 2025 for a new five-star Melia resort on the popular tropical island of Phu Quoc.
Melia Phu Quoc Forest Bay opens along a sandy stretch of beach in the north of the island in 2028. This will be the third Melia property on Vietnam’s largest island, joining Melia Vinpearl Phu Quoc, in the northwest, and SOL by Melia Phu Quoc in the southern part of Phu Quoc. The new partnership is Melia’s first with CityLand Group, a leading real estate developer in Vietnam.
Melia Hotels International has expanded rapidly in Vietnam in the last three years. At the start of 2022 the Spanish hotel group had six hotels and resorts throughout the country. The company now boasts 20 hotels in operation and six in the pipeline in Vietnam.
“CityLand Group and Meliá Hotels International share a vision of sustainable development, where investment value is not only optimized for investors but also creates a positive and lasting impact on the local community, contributing to the future growth of Phu Quoc’s tourism industry,” CityLand Group CEO, Bui Duc Liem, said.
Stretching along 700 meters of pristine shoreline, Melia Phu Quoc Forest Bay is set on a 21-hectare site within the Bai Thom master plan—one of the most promising areas in Northern Phu Quoc, with a total planned area of 173 hectares. The project is planned for development in two phases. Phase one (expected to open in 2028) involves the launch of approximately 128 luxury villas and 130 hotel keys. Phase two (expected to be completed in 2030) adds approximately 108 villas, bringing the total room count to 773.
The property’s contemporary villas range in size from 2-5 bedrooms, each with private pools.
There will be a variety of restaurants and bars within the lush tropical grounds, along with an oceanfront swimming pool, wellness facilities such as a gym and luxury spa, a kids club offering creative play experiences, an event space ideal for weddings, conferences and large-scale events.
“Phu Quoc’s stunning natural beauty from its white sand beaches to the verdant national park, make this island a gem of a destination that’s steadily gaining more popularity with travellers seeking new destinations in Vietnam,” Melia Hotels International APAC management director, Ignacio Martin, said.
Through the collaboration of global hospitality group, Melia Hotels International and CityLand Group, a leading multi-sector developer in Vietnam, Melia Phu Quoc Forest Bay is set to become a symbol of luxury resort living in Phu Quoc.
