Midweek Catch-up with UnCruise Adventures’ Kirsty Bozlee

Were not sure how to UnCruise… and when we asked the company’s vice president of operations, she thought we were joking.

What’s your main goal for this year? 

Professionally, my main goal is to share my knowledge and grow our leadership team.

Personally, my main goal is to learn Spanish.

What’s your favourite thing about working in the travel industry? 

My favourite thing about working in the travel industry is meeting new people and being open to new experiences.

I love learning new things from colleagues, guests on our trips, vendors, or industry professionals.

There is always something new every day.

How do you like to spend your free time? 

I like to spend my free time camping and exploring the Pacific Northwest with my husband Blake and our two dogs Dakota and Montana.

I also enjoy checking out new restaurants and eating/drinking all that Seattle has to offer.

When I am at home I can be found working on renovations in my house or attempting to craft.

Have you managed to do any travelling since restrictions began to ease (domestic or international)? 

I have! I have been lucky to do a significant amount of travel for both work and pleasure.

I recently was visiting our vessel the Safari Voyager in Mexico just a few weeks ago.

Beyond that, in November I tagged along on my husband’s work trip to Paris and in August we travelled to the Maldives for a getaway.

What’s your favourite travel company, besides the one you work for? 

G-Adventure. I love that they make travel approachable for a single individual, so many people are scared to embark on travel solo. They also are great for couples or friend groups.

Another thing that I love about G-Adventure is their focus on local, local guides and local support.

If you could invite three famous guests (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would you choose? 

Abraham Lincoln, Betty White and Princess Diana.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the global pandemic hit? 

The sense of community and reconnecting. I have friends and family spread around the globe that I would keep in touch with via social media and the occasional call or text.

Since the pandemic hit the urge for more togetherness has been unbelievable.

My family has set up weekly zoom calls, I often have virtual happy hours with friends on the east coast or overseas who outside of pandemic times I would be lucky to see once a year, I now see much more regularly.

What’s your advice for others in the travel industry on coping with the global pandemic? 

To carve out personal time and disconnect from the news during it. Our lives have been consumed with the pandemic on a personal level and professional.

Understanding the restrictions, worrying about what is coming next from a new variant, vaccine rollout, testing availability – it all becomes so overwhelming and is hard to escape.

I started to force myself to unplug and get outside, it has made a large impact on my ability to cope when the pandemic takes a turn that makes working in the travel industry more difficult.

What book and/or TV show can you not get enough of lately? 

I honestly haven’t been reading as much as I should be. I did however recently get into BBC’s Race Across The World.  

Do you have any travel goals for 2022? 

I would love to explore more of Central and Latin America.

I am currently enrolled in Spanish classes with a tutor with the hopes to be empowered to travel without relying on a translation app.
