Travel Weekly interrupted AYANA Resort’s Lindsay Grace Kinniburgh’s lunch break for this interview, luckily our questions were juicy and delicious.

The challenge for the industry is…

Hospitality, and certainly tourism, is very much influenced by our external environment, therefore it is constantly changing.

The things I like about my job…

Being creative.

There is nothing more thrilling than developing an original and innovative marketing campaign or design concept – I just love it!

I am also very honored to work alongside an incredibly talented local team here at AYANA.

And the frustrations are …

Not enough hours in a day.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Assisting startup businesses with marketing strategies, concept development and promotional campaigns.

Favourite airline?

Probably Emirates or KLM as they fly into Scotland – my homeland.

My proudest moment was…

When I bought my very own brand new BMW Z4.

However, this story comes with a caveat; as proud as I was of this moment, it was short lived and taught me a very valuable lesson – shiny stuff didn’t make me feel as though I had ‘made it’.

Soon after I bought the car, not only did I miss my Ford Fiesta, but I realized that success and being proud of your achievements actually has nothing to do with grand displays.

It does however, have everything to do with how you feel about yourself at the end of the day, and if you contributed positively to your environment – get that right and you can be proud every day!

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Do you want the list??

I try to relax by…

Meditating.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not great at quieting my mind, but when I do it’s the most incredible experience; almost like a shower for your mind.

And although it’s my place of work, having a cocktail overlooking the ocean at Rock Bar, BALI at the end of a big day, washes away all the stress…

The last time I feared for my life was…

Let’s be realistic, in today’s climate fearing for your life is almost a daily occurrence.

From pending natural disasters to terrorism or life threatening diseases; it’s all too easy to get caught up living in fear.

Instead, I try not to think about it too much, I would prefer to live life with a positive outlook, despite what the news says.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Durian! It’s a Balinese fruit that tastes like feet.

I really wish I had…

The ability to take better control of my own thoughts.

I believe if we can control what we think about we can be, do or have anything we desire.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

I recently read a profound quote by Benjamin Franklin.

The words really resonated with me, and left me considering just how differently life would be if we followed this valuable rule:

“I will speak ill of no man, and speak all the good I know of everybody.”

I don’t understand why people…

Cannot see one another as equal.

I especially don’t understand the need for control.

It’s just weird.

My greatest weakness is…

Self-criticism.

It’s important we push ourselves to do better every day and in every way, but sometimes I can be over critical of myself, and quite frankly, it’s exhausting.

And my greatest strength is…

My ability to problem solve.

I follow the belief ‘there must be another way’, and that there is always a solution to every problem.

Finding it may take time, but I know it’s possible.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Buy a house by the ocean.

If I was prime minister I would…

Invite my country to understand the value in freedom and equality.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

There are a million things I would change about myself, but if I did I wouldn’t be me, so I’d rather just stay who I am.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Peru.

My favorite holiday was…

This might seem lame, but I recently took my partner to Scotland for 3-weeks and it was AMAZING!

Even though I am Scottish, I really had no idea what a magical country it is – think castles, pipers, lochs, boats, mountains, whisky tours, oceans, accents and white sand beaches.

It was epic.
