Mining sector soars to new heights with Corporate Traveller and AMEC partnership

At travel in the mining sector soars, Corporate Traveller has announced a new partnership with the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC).

With a five per cent uplift in the volume of flight bookings in the last quarter of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, mining and companies are spending more time with their boots on the ground.

“The new year has certainly begun on an optimistic note for corporate travel, with a notable surge in activity from the mining and construction sectors,” said Corporate Traveller’s Australia-based global managing director Tom Walley.

“Historically accounting for 20-25 per cent of our corporate travel bookings, these industries have remarkably made up roughly 35 per cent of all corporate bookings in the first month of this year, as they make a speedy return to site.

“Corporate Traveller has well over 300 customers in the mining, oil, and gas sectors, in Australia alone, so we truly understand the unique requirements and critical nature of travel programs across the industry.

“Mining travel differentiates significantly from general corporate travel. Where the general business travel takes place primarily between Melbourne and Sydney, this is not the case for mining companies, and the businesses that service the sector.

“The most frequented routes among our mining customers are between Kalgoorlie and Perth, followed by Brisbane and Mackay, and there is more regional travel in this sector than any other.

“It’s a niche that requires an ability to act quickly and constantly be on the ball. There’s not always another flight leaving the next hour if the original booking is delayed or cancelled, and it’s moments like those where the right travel management company will deliver in spades to get you back on track.

“Similarly, Papua New Guinea is the industry’s most frequently travelled international destination, and beyond that, mining and its related companies find themselves in third world countries more than any other sector when travelling internationally. This alone calls for a specialised approach to travel management.”

As a national association representing over 600 member companies from all around Australia, AMEC focuses on reducing the cost of doing business, eliminating regulatory obstacles, and supporting increased exploration, discovery, and mining opportunities in the country. Its membership includes explorers, emerging miners, producers, and a wide range of businesses and service providers working in and for the industry.

“AMEC is proud to welcome Corporate Traveller as an official partner of the association,” said AMEC
CEO Warren Pearce. “Corporate Traveller is synonymous with companies and business travellers. We look forward to the contribution they make to the AMEC community and some of the benefits offered to our
membership base.

“This relationship provides an important connection between our members and one of Australia’s leading travel management services. We welcome them aboard as we continue to add further value for our members.

“Corporate Traveller has been facilitating AMEC’s travel for more than a decade, and it has been a trusted and valued partner in our own experiences, so we’re very pleased to welcome them onboard in this new capacity and to showcase their offering to the broader membership.”

Whether it’s streamlining bookings, identifying cost savings, developing effective policies or ensuring travellers reach their destinations smoothly, Corporate Traveller acts as an extension of the team, removing all the hassles and adding value for businesses and travellers.
