Our Aussie roads are ranked pretty high out of the 183 countries listed, but they might not be as safe as you’d think.
Accidents on the road can happen anywhere, anytime, but research shows that it occurs a lot more in some areas of the world than others.
Using the latest World Health Organisation data, Just Tyres have mapped 183 countries to reveal just how dangerous their roads are.
The level of danger is calculated on the number of road fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants per year and, based on this, the roads which have 21 fatalities or more are considered unsafe.
The safest road in the world can be found in Europe, with Monaco taking out the top spot. Oceania was found to be the continent that had the safest roads with Micronesia coming in second, followed by Kiribati in fourth.
Australia has the third safest roads in Oceania, ranking at 22nd in the world.
Venezuela on the other hand, has some of the most dangerous, with 45.1 fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants. Thailand and Malawi followed closely behind with 36.2 and 35 annual road fatalities, respectively.
