Police have charged a 31-year-old mother of two with arson and wilful damage after a fire destroyed large parts of a quarantine hotel in Cairns.
Nine News reported that the fire broke out at 7am on Sunday 28 November, on the eleventh floor of Pacific Hotel Cairns, causing “significant damage” according to Chief Superintendent Chris Hodgman. A number of floors will now be unusable.
The 163 people isolating in the hotel were evacuated within five minutes, and have since been relocated. No one was injured in the fire.
Police say the woman is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
It will be alleged that the Manoora woman lit a fire underneath a bed in the room where she had been staying with two children.
