An MSC Cruises crew member was called into action after an Irish passenger onboard a ship at port in Europe reportedly jumped into the water.
Official reports of an Irish woman jumping from the deck of an MSC Cruises ship in Italy have said that she “chose to jump” overboard.
The event prompted a crew member on board to spring into action, rescuing the woman within minutes of her entering the water, while the Seaview ship was in the port of Genoa.
This comes after initial reports claimed the woman fell from the ship; however, a spokesperson from MSC Cruises has said that she chose to jump of her “own will”:
“On Monday June 17 in the evening whilst MSC Seaview was in port in Genoa a female guest of Irish nationality chose, of her own will, to jump overboard,” the spokesperson said.
“In order to rescue the guest, a crew member from the ship jumped in the water to provide immediate assistance.”
After the incident, the passenger was recovered and MSC Seaview’s medical staff provided first medical care on board. The passenger was then taken for further medical attention.
“She was joined by her family members who were travelling with her. The crew member who provided assistance is in good health,” the spokesperson said.
