MSC Cruises has completed installing a dragon sculpture aboard its new flagship MSC World Asia, marking a key milestone as the ship moves closer to welcoming its first guests.
Balich Wonder Studio designed the dragon sculpture, which will become one of the ship’s most recognisable visual landmarks.
The stainless-steel dragon sculpture is 12 metres in length and 3.5 metres in width. It is suspended 10 metres above the Outdoor World Promenade, the ship’s vibrant outdoor destination offering ocean views, dining, entertainment and relaxation. The dragon sculpture features nearly 700 mirrors, 400 metres of integrated strip lighting and more than 3,000 LED light points. The centrepiece complements the ship’s subtle design elements that reflect Asia’s rich culture, art, and landscapes. As night falls, the sculpture lights up, bringing the dragon to life after dark.
“For the first time, an icon becomes the defining symbol of a ship: a powerful expression of identity, created to inspire dreams and enrich every journey,” Balich Wonder Studio Chairman Marco Balich said. “The dragon brings together vision, craftsmanship and emotion, creating an experience that will remain with guests long after their journey.”
MSC World Asia will begin Mediterranean cruises from 4 December 2026, offering seven-night itineraries to some of the Mediterranean’s most popular destinations including Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), Messina and Valletta.
