Playing music or watching video in the airline seat are the most popular methods to ease fear of flying, a survey shows.
For 42 per cent of those questioned, immersion in the inflight entertainment was the preferred distraction, followed by engaging in conversation with fellow passengers for 30 per cent.
One in seven passengers (14 per cent) used sedatives made from plant extracts or arrived at the airport early to prepare themselves for the impending trip.
Around seven per cent trust in lucky charms while six per cent resort to alcohol, according to the survey carried out by market research group GfK.
The results are based on a survey of 536 men and women in Germany above the age of 14 who suffer from a fear of flying.
