Held at the Pullman Cairns International, this year’s conference theme is: Sustainability of Tourism, Hospitality and Events in a Disruptive Digital Age.

The event kicked off with a workshop today (Monday, 11 Feb) before Day 1 of the conference is officially opened by CQUni Chancellor John Abbott tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 February.

Conference Organising Committee Chair, CQUniversity Professor of Tourism Professor Bruce Prideaux, said the CAUTHE conference would feature a number of keynote speakers including CEO Tourism Tropical North Queensland Pip Close, Professor of Development Studies at Massey University and co-director of the Pacific Research and Policy Centre, Professor Regina Scheyvens and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement at Sunway University in Malaysia, Professor Perry Hobson to name a few.

“The CAUTHE conference will provide an opportunity for academics, students and industry who are interested in hospitality, tourism and events education and research,” Professor Prideaux said.

This event will include a public lecture on the digital revolution.

“Global leader in academic research Professor Dimitrios Buhalis will present an interactive free public lecture titled ‘Smart Tourism and Hospitality towards 2030’ at 4pm Wednesday, 13 February. His talk will look at the changes that are expected to occur in the next decade and offer ideas on how tourism businesses can prepare and profit from these changes.

“The digital revolution has revolutionised many areas of the tourism industry. More changes are on the way in the near future. Businesses that fail to keep up with these changes will miss the benefits that can be derived from timely adaption to new digitally driven business models.”
