The stars have aligned with a new Sydney precinct set to launch The Hollywood Quarter (HQ Sydney) on Friday, October 14, kicking off a month of specially curated events.

Adjacent to Central, and a short walk across the park from Sydney’s CBD, HQ Sydney is a one-stop destination offering all the talent, culture and nightlife you want from this vibrant inner-city suburb.

The launch comes with a series of special offers, events and activations at iconic bars, clubs, restaurants, and establishments such as the Ace Hotel Sydney, Paramount House Hotel, the Golden Age Cinema and more.

A project facilitated by the Darlinghurst Business Partnership, and supported by City of Sydney precinct activation grant, HQ Sydney is a destination for anyone looking for good food, bar hopping and a thriving nightlife.

DBP President Stephan Gyory said: “This area used to be a no-go zone, a bit shabby and rundown and over the past few years we’ve seen an influx of great hospitality venues popup. We just needed to give the area a nudge – give it a name and, working alongside the local businesses, put it on the map once more.

“While we’ve given the area a nod to the past, the HQ precinct has its eye firmly on the future.”

A destination for anyone looking for good food, bar hopping, al-fresco dining and a thriving nightlife zone, Sydney’s Lord Mayor, Clover Moore added: “We can see this community of venues, art galleries and hotels have a very exciting time ahead.

Golden Age band in action

“This is one of my absolute favourite corners of the city, which is why we’re so happy to support Hollywood Quarter – not only will this series of events to help local businesses bounce back from the pandemic in the short term, it will bring them, and the broader community closer together for similar events into the future.”

Participating venues include Alberto’s rocking the world music with Italo disco DJ’s to elevate the Euro Trattoria experience every Sunday; Butter for the vibe with fried chicken, hip hop DJs, champagne and sneakers, plus Mexican Fried Chicken Feast with bottomless Margaritas on the weekend; Nomad x Piermarq launching a ticketed Artist Dinner Series at the Gallery, it’s first event will be with renowned artist Thorbjørn Bechmann from Denmark followed by a feast at Nomad; the degustation only nel.

Restaurants will be serving up A Trip to Broadway with each course being inspired by the golden age of stage; Pellegrino launches its al-fresco dining; Soda Factory with its live music and Halloween weekend of festivities, The Rover for oyster pairings, and Tio’s launching its successful Mezcal Mini Fest for the fourth year running – have all teamed up to be part of the buzzing HQ Sydney activations, with each venue hosting its own special event, chef or artist collaboration, music/performance curation, creative takeover.

Hotel Hollywood, acquired its name in 1940 due to its location to the nearby cinema and will be throwing down old school pub vibes with live bands playing each Thursday, Friday and Saturday night; and look out for its Spooky House for Halloween on Saturday, October 29 – a thrilling spectacle as patrons are welcomed into the ‘chilling house party’ of former owner and actress, Doris Goddard, the legendary publican known for putting the Hollywood in Sydney’s beloved Hotel.

And by the queer community for the queer community, connect over great music at the Sumper Camp Lobby Residency every Friday, all preferences and pronouns welcome.

Combine it with a film screening of Brady Corbet’s audacious musical drama Vox Lux (2018) starring Natalie Portman, at the art-house Golden Age Cinema and Bar followed by a set of music performances inspired by the film and special guests.

In collaboration with Melbourne’s coolest wine bar Hope St Radio, owner Peter Baxter, has curated a unique Indigenous music roster of DJs and live artists to take over Paramount House Hotel.

For something unique – enjoy a sit Down Dinner for 50 with Hope St Radio chefs preparing a set-menu degustation of seasonal, sensational food alongside natural and biodynamic wines, live music and watch artist Alice McIntosh paint an original artwork ‘sails’ – a pre-sale ticketed event at Paramount House Hotel Lobby from 7:00-9:30pm.
