A $300 million hotel featuring 200 loft-style guest rooms is to be built in the heart of Adelaide.

Starwood Hotels is bringing its Aloft brand to South Australia, declaring Adelaide a major growth area for accommodation services fuelled by both leisure and business customers.

The hotel will be built in Sturt Street and will feature a rooftop pool and running track, fitness centre, meeting rooms, restaurants and bars.

Live music performances will also be a key element of the development which is scheduled to open in 2018.

Starwood’s director of acquisitions Andrew Taylor says the Aloft brand fills a void in the hospitality sector.

“Demand for Aloft is rapidly accelerating and the brand continues to aggressively expand as we near 100 hotels worldwide,” he said.

“We are experiencing growing interest from investors and developers in the Australian market who are attracted to the brand.”

The move into Adelaide will follow the opening of the first Aloft hotel in Sydney in 2016 and a similar development in Perth, scheduled to open in 2017.
