New Accor hotel to sit atop a Bunnings

A new property in Doncaster that will sit on top of a Bunnings Warehouse is under construction.

Accor is set to build a new $70 million, 183-room Mercure hotel atop a double-storey Bunnings Warehouse in Doncaster.

The move will see a new two-in-one experience: guests of Mercure Melbourne Doncaster can access its destination restaurant and bar, alfresco dining space, sundeck, fitness centre, rooftop pool and function room.

And if their inner-tradie is knocking, visit Bunnings’ new $90 million build.

Construction of the first stage of the development at 659 Doncaster Road began last month, after a long-mooted process, which originally would have seen 100 apartments above the Bunnings.

An amended permit to replace them with the hotel was approved by Manningham Council in June, after a lengthy back and forth between Bunnings and Westfield, as reported by the Herald Sun.

Simon McGrath, Accor Pacific’s chief operating officer, said Accor is excited to bring the Mercure brand to Doncaster.

“With the Victorian Government focused on decentralising business outside of the CBD, Doncaster has been identified as a growing pocket of Melbourne in need of new hotel supply,”  McGrath said in a statement.

“Guests of the Mercure Melbourne Doncaster will … enjoy staying in the heart of Melbourne’s Doncaster business and shopping district, with the hotel located in a prime position on Doncaster Road adjacent to Westfield Shopping Centre with stunning views over Melbourne CBD’s skyline, just 14kms away.

“Accor are excited to bring the internationally recognised Mercure brand, with its warm local hospitality to Doncaster, together with Accord Property Group, in their first hotel development,” he said.

McGrath added that the property aims to open mid-2021.
