Oberon’s Field to Forest Festival is launching its biggest season yet with more than 30 events over two months, its most ambitious program to date.

Guests can expect programs like wild mushroom foraging expeditions through fog-laced forests, intimate lunches in secluded woodland clearings, and a rollicking Elizabethan feast gathered around a long table at the historic Malachi Gilmore Hall experiencing snippets of Romeo and Juliet. Add Shakespeare performed under stars, forest film screenings and 4WD tag-along adventures.

Shakespeare Comes to Oberon: 5 to 7 March

The festival opens with a Shakespeare spectacular from 5 to 7 March. On Friday 6 March, enjoy a feast and performance at the Malachi Gilmore Hall, before the Oberon Markets transform into a bustling festival marketplace on Saturday 7 March – with foodies, makers, and creatives filling the town. The weekend culminates with free open-air performance of Romeo & Juliet on the Oberon Common theatre under the autumn sky.

Forage, Feast and Explore the Forest

At the heart of the festival is Oberon’s remarkable natural larder – visitors can join guided Wild Mushroom Foraging Tours through the region’s pine forests, enjoy a cellar door-inspired truffle tasting experience at RedGround Australia, and take part in Fish & Forage 4WD Adventures. Dinners showcasing the region’s prized Margra lamb and other local produce run every Friday and Saturday night, while monthly produce markets at Tarana and Oberon offer visitors the chance to meet the makers and take a taste of the region home.

Forest-Inspired Film: 28 to 29 March

On the weekend of 28-29 March, the Malachi Gilmore Hall becomes an intimate cinema for special screenings of The Giants, featuring locally born environmentalist and former politician Bob Brown. Audiences are invited to enjoy the film with creative local-produce popcorn – think truffle, local honey, and olive oil – for a unique viewing experience.

Open Gardens, Glamping and the Mayfield Autumn Festival

The program also features the Mayfield Garden Autumn Festival, showcasing Oberon’s blazing autumn colour, along with open garden tours and glamping (with special star-gazing nights), for overnight visitors who want to stay and savour the season. Forest talks, workshops, and scenic walks through national parks round out the offering for nature lovers.
