TFE continues to make its mark on Australia’s hotel scene with its latest renovation in Melbourne which borrows straight from The Great Gatsby playbook.
The multimillion-dollar refurb takes the property back to its Art Deco roots, paying tribute to the original Hotel Alexander which occupied the site in 1928.
Once the Vibe Savoy, the iconic building has been reborn under the TFE Hotels Collection brand – a portfolio of beautiful discovery hotels with a sense of story, place and purpose.

And as we stepped out of the ferocious rain into the softly lit foyer complete with subtle jazz drifting from the bar, it’s safe to say the Savoy has realised the old-world glamour it was shooting for.
Location
Touching down at Tullamarine Airport, guests can take the Airport shuttle (30 – 45min) and find themselves a stone’s throw from the Savoy lobby.
Situated on the corner of Little Collins and Spencer Street, less than a minute’s walk from Southern Cross Station and a 5-minute walk into the CBD you couldn’t ask for a better city stay location.
The Savoy is also walking distance from Melbourne’s iconic South Wharf precinct, which houses everything from cafes to wine bars, bustling Asian restaurants and more. Enough to pique the interest of any seasoned foodie.
The 10-minute stroll across the Yarra River also brings you right out-front conferencing hot spot, the MCEC making it the ideal sanctuary for delegates.
The Room
The room reviewed was the Plaza Guestroom with a King size bed. The cool palette is calming and conducive to catching up on work or simply kicking your feet up and taking in the urban surrounds.
Our favourite feature was the bathroom, each one is fitted with white subway tiles and chequerboard black and white tiled floors, contrasting with chrome tapware to reflect the heritage elements of the building.
The Savoy on Little Collins has a total of 163 guest rooms.
Features
Amongst all the hustle and bustle it is rare for a hotel lobby to feel quite this inviting, but that is what has been achieved at The Savoy.
The Alexander Bar is now the elegant ground floor attraction, a cosy yet stylish space providing the perfect place to catch up on work, meet a business contact or simply sit back and relax.
Throughout the day, the bar is open for drinks and in-house dining.
