Outrigger Hospitality Group has been using the COVID downtime to significantly grow its resort empire, announcing the acquisition of four resorts.

The company has completed its purchase of the Manathai Hotels and Resorts brand, inclusive of three premier beach resorts in southern Thailand. The resorts consist of 372 keys in three of the most sought-after beach locations in Asia.

Outrigger will refresh the former Manathai Koh Samui, Manathai Khao Lak and Manathai Surin Phuket (pictured above) before rebranding and re-opening by the year-end high season as Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort, Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort and Phuket Manathai by Outrigger.

The investment is directly aligned with Outrigger’s strategic business plan to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific and beyond, furthering its mission to be ‘The Premier Beach Resort Brand in the World’.

Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of Outrigger, said the trio of acquisitions demonstrates the group’s confidence in Thailand’s tourism industry and commitment to the global expansion of its leisure resort portfolio.

“Our past success in Thailand stemmed from celebrating unique cultural aspects of the destination, which is something that we plan to continue at all three of the new properties,” he said.

Furthermore, Outrigger has revived its plan to acquire Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay, a 509-room property in a prime oceanfront location on the Island of Hawaii.

The transaction is expected to close in late August 2021, at which time the property will be rebranded as Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to return to Hawaii Island with a full-service Outrigger resort and share the legacy of this remarkable place in a responsible and sustainable manner,” Wagoner said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic put this purchase on a brief pause, so we’re glad to be back on track and look forward to welcoming guests to our new home.”
