Packed calendar for Melbourne

Melbourne has secured 14 large scale conferences to be held in the next six years that will bring an estimated $27 million and 7550 delegates to Victoria.

Nine international and five national conferences have been procured by the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB) in the last three months.

“These bid wins shine a light on Victoria’s strength in intellectual pursuits which we are eager to share with the world through our ongoing campaign, Melbourne IQ: the intelligent choice for conferences,” MCVB chief executive officer Karen Bolinger said.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher announced the recent wins and added that they compound strong results from the last financial year.

“The business events secured in the last financial year will inject a forecasted $361 million into the Victorian economy over the coming years, and are a great testament to the ability of Melbourne and Victoria to compete in this global market,” Asher said.

Melbourne will host the Engineers Australia National Conference in 2014, the Green Cities conference in 2015, the Congress of the International Federation for Structural Concrete in 2018 and the general meeting of the International Mineralogical Association in 2018.

Bolinger thanked the MCVB’s industry partners and the Victorian government for their support of business events in the state.
