Need a good news story to brighten your Thursday afternoon? We’d like to refer you to this shining beacon of hope.

Author Jaime Primak posted a tweet on Tuesday, which begins with a shattering, racist remark she was exposed to during a recent flight to New York. A man asked her to “please stop speaking Spanish”.

It’s just one in a stream of recent racist tirades from aeroplane passengers we’ve reported on recently, including a woman who refused to travel with men in prayer robes, and Ryanair’s appalling handling of a man who refused to sit with an elderly black woman.

But this time the story has a happy— and rather sassy— outcome.

According to Primak, the man seated next to the man who told her to stop speaking Spanish also began to speak in Spanish. And it didn’t stop there, a flight attendant also joined in.

This man just asked me to “please stop speaking Spanish” on this plane to NYC (in his defense it’s very early and he’s racist) so the man next to him STARTED SPEAKING SPANISH and then the flight attendant and my GOD i have never wanted to get up and dance more than i do now.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter absolutely loved Primak’s story and it has racked up over 10,000 retweets and 82,000 likes.

Plus loads of fantastic responses:

Hope you kept speaking Spanish. There are over 800 languages spoken in NYC. This will be him. pic.twitter.com/f6pBWERz3S

One Twitter user asked Primak to post a photo of the man, but she replied that she wouldn’t as she disagrees with cancel culture.

I feel bad 😔 i thought about it but i hate cancel culture – it hurts my heart.

Primak has not yet revealed which airline this star flight attendant works on but we think all flight attendants could take a leaf out of their book. We’re brushing up on our second languages just in case.
