The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has announced a global recovery forum to support the business events industry.

Convening Asia Pacific – The Global Recovery Forum will be a hybrid event taking place at ICC Sydney and online on Tuesday 10 November.

Karen Bolinger, PCMA’s managing director across the Asia Pacific, said the event has drawn on the insights and findings from months of research that the association has carried out.

“The content for this event has been designed around the findings from PCMA’s major global and Asia-Pacific surveys where we asked buyers and suppliers what skills and information they needed to survive and thrive in their business post-COVID-19,” she said.

“This event is an intensive four-hour program co-created by event planners and the industry, and includes case studies, workshops and strategic content.

“I’m particularly interested in the sharing that will occur amongst participants as we facilitate important discussions. Only together will we work to create viable solutions and find ways to adapt and continue our journey to recovery.”

PCMA released its Business Events Compass globally in July, providing research-based insights on geographic and industry sector business events recovery opportunities, as well as recommendations for the evolution of participant engagement, business models and expected reskilling needs.

In August, PCMA released the COVID-19 Recovery Dashboard survey specific to the APAC region. Common pain points were strategic approaches to budgets, exhibitors and engagement – all key themes to be covered at Convening Asia Pacific.

PCMA has also launched an APAC-specific peer-to-peer meeting series to facilitate open conversation about the industry’s challenges and recovery strategies. The meeting will host up to 30 industry professionals per session from corporates to associations.

Based on the PCMA Community Conversations program in the US, the APAC version – titled ‘Community Connect’ – is helping event professionals undertake end-to-end reviews of their events from strategy through to post-implementation.

Initially for members, PCMA’s regional team has opened the sessions up to non-members.
