Melbourne’s Docklands is one step closer to welcoming the latest addition to its growing skyline following the completion of the prototype room for the waterfront’s first five-star hotel, Peppers Docklands Melbourne.
The prototype hotel room is the first glimpse of what future guests can expect at the innovative M Docklands project, on track to open early 2016.
The $140 million, 19-level development will feature:
- The five-star Peppers Docklands hotel operated by Australian accommodation provider, Mantra Group (ASX:MTR), under its luxury Peppers brand, offering 87 stylish hotel suites
- 186 residential apartments
- 11 retail shops
Mantra Group’s ceo Bob East said that Peppers Docklands will prove popular both with the domestic market and with Australia’s growing inbound tourism market.
“The Docklands is in need of a sophisticated hotel product to cater to an increasingly selective global market that is looking for quality, location and facilities of a world class calibre. Peppers Docklands has this, and will set a benchmark for future mixed-use developments in Australia,” he said.
“We are excited that next year visitors will be able to stay in premium rooms like the one we launched today – boosting the local economy and enhancing the Docklands new-found charm.”
While the Peppers Docklands room has a calming effect with classic European lines, it is a room of contrasts – light and dark, formal and informal, with rich dark timbers contrasting with white stone and timber. The classic elegance is contrasted by the eclectic graffiti artwork directly painted to the bedhead wall – something of a first for hotels in Australia.
The room includes bespoke lighting, sophisticated décor including luxurious chaise lounge and leather armchair and quality locally sourced merino wool fabrics.
Peppers Docklands will be the first Peppers hotel to open in Melbourne for Mantra Group, joining 10 Mantra apartment hotels in Melbourne CBD and the airport.
