Lufthansa flight 469, an Airbus 1330, had departed Austin, Texas and was en route to Frankfurt, Germany when turbulence rocked the plane forcing it to make an emergency landing at Dulles international airport, Virginia.

Seven passengers were rushed to hospital with the extent of their injuries unknown at this stage.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now investigating the incident.

“Lufthansa Flight 469 diverted to Dulles International Airport and landed without incident around 9.10pm local time after the crew reported encountering severe turbulence at 37,000 feet altitude over Tennessee,” the FAA said.
