A passenger on an Australian cruise sailing has passed away at Mystery Island, Vanuatu, P&O Cruises have confirmed.

A fellow passenger from the itinerary told 7 News that the person died whilst snorkelling.

P&O has been sailing its newest ship, Pacific Adventure before tragedy struck at Mystery Island, a popular holiday destination thanks to its stunning beaches.

“We extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones and are doing everything we can to support them during this difficult time,” a statement from the cruise company read.

“As we are working with the relevant authorities and to protect the privacy of the family, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The operator of the cruise, Carnival, confirm that one person died, “following what appears to be a medical situation while swimming.”
