Ponant’s luxury Explorer class ship, Le Jacques-Cartier, has arrived in Darwin for the first time after successfully completing her inaugural 2024 Japan season.
Now, she sets a course for her first 2024 Kimberley season, where she will embark on 13 departures from May to September 2024.
“Le Jacques-Cartier’s arrival in Darwin marks the beginning of an exciting Kimberley season, having a new ship in the region,” Ponant general manager sales & marketing Asia Pacific Deb Corbett said.
Explorer class environmental certification
Le Jacques-Cartier holds Underwater Radiated Noise – Controlled rating certification, issued by Bureau Veritas, making it one of the few cruise ships in the world to achieve this distinction. The certification reflects the ship’s state-of-the-art design, emphasising environmental preservation, particularly in underwater environments.
With this certification, Le Jacques Cartier demonstrates Ponant’s commitment to mitigating the impact on marine fauna, making her well equipped to explore the delicate ecosystems of Australia’s Kimberley region, the line said.
“We are thrilled to bring our guests closer to the natural wonders of Australia’s Kimberley whilst upholding our commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability,” Corbett added.
The itinerary, from Darwin to Broome, is an 11-day expedition cruise to one of the last unspoiled regions on the planet. The stops include the wild mangroves and saltwater crocodiles along the Hunter River, and highpoints including the King George River and the majestic Twin Falls, the highest falls in Western Australia.
Ashmore Reef is also on the agenda and is home to corals and extraordinary marine life. The trip will include Collier Bay and Montgomery Reef, home to vast expanses of lagoons and immense coral reefs. On the Lacepede Islands, guests will see an abundance of nesting birds as well as the large population of turtles residing in the lagoon.

Once she concludes her 2024 Kimberley season, Le Jacques-Cartier will set sail for Indonesia and East Timor before concluding the year exploring Tasmania and Australia’s southern coast.
