We’re still not sure if this isn’t an April fools prank, 2 months too late.
Thousands of adults and children flocked to the opening of Russia’s “Military Disneyland” in Moscow last week, Patriot Park, but don’t expect to find Mickey or Minnie lurking anywhere, well not without some kind of weapon on hand.
This park isn’t your average rollercoaster-and-fairyfloss kind of scene, it’s instead filled with helicopters, missiles, tanks, boats and submarines – oh and letting kids play with grenade launchers – in a bid to attract Russia’s youth in an effort to keep the military ‘cool’. It will also offer war re-enactments and food made from army rations, of course.
While Russian president Valdimir Putin officially opened the park last week, it plans to be fully completed by 2017 at a reported cost of US$370 million, per various news reports.
