Qantas follows revamped frequent flyer scheme with surprise 72-hour domestic flight sale

It has been a busy week for Qantas. After revealing a major expansion in its frequent flyer program yesterday with the launch of ‘Classic Plus Flight Rewards’, the national carrier has continued to stay in the headlines with a surprise 72-hour domestic flight sale.

Qantas has today discounted over one million seats on more than 100 routes around Australia as part of the surprise sale.

Travellers looking to book a local getaway before then can snap up domestic economy sale fares to over 60 destinations starting from $105 one-way for travel from May to December.

More than 30 routes are on sale for under $150 one way, including Launceston to Melbourne, Maroochydore to Sydney, and Brisbane to Hervey Bay.

Sale fares are available until 11.59pm (AEST) 11 April 2024 unless they sell out before. Fares include checked baggage, complimentary food and beverages, free Wi-Fi on domestic aircraft, and seat selection.

The latest news comes just after Qantas completed the largest-ever expansion of its loyalty program.

The ‘Classic Plus Flight Rewards’ is a new way for members to use their Qantas Points to book flights making travel to destinations like London, Tokyo, New York and Singapore easier to score, even in peak periods.

Qantas Group CEOm Vanessa Hudson said frequent flyers have more ways than ever to earn points and a new flight reward options would open up more value for frequent flyers wanting to use their growing points balances on travel.

“The Qantas Frequent Flyer program is an integral part of Qantas and has been about recognising our customers for their loyalty,” she said.

“We’ve spent a lot of time listening to members about how we can better reward them.

“We’re adding over 20 million new flight rewards with the launch of a new type of reward seat called Classic Plus.

“It’s one of the biggest expansions we’ve made to the Frequent Flyer program in its 35-year history.
