Qantas has again been named Australia’s most on-time airline, topping the punctuality rankings for the eighth consecutive year.

According to official government data released today, more than 81 per cent of Qantas domestic and regional flights departed on time in the year to June – the airline’s best result since 2019, outside of the Covid period. The figure is 3.4 percentage points higher than the previous financial year and 5.4 percentage points higher than FY24, marking Qantas’ strongest on-time performance in seven years.

The airline finished ahead of its major competitor by around 3.5 percentage points, winning 11 of the past 12 months.

Qantas ended the year on a high, with almost 85 per cent of its flights departing on time in June – enough to rank it the world’s most on-time major airline for the month, according to aviation analytics firm OAG. It is the fifth time in the past six months that Qantas has placed in the top three major airlines globally.

Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson said getting more customers away on time was a team effort spanning the entire operation.

“Getting more customers away on time is a team effort across every part of the operation, from engineering and operations to airports and our technology teams,” Svensson said.

“We’ve seen consistent improvement in our on-time performance over the past few years, and it’s a credit to our teams that we’re now regularly among the world’s leading airlines.

“An 81 per cent on-time rate is the best we’ve delivered since 2019, and it’s translating directly into how customers rate their experience with us, which is also on the rise.

“We know we can’t get complacent, and in aviation each day brings new challenges, which is why we’re continuing work on improving our reliability and better supporting customers when things don’t go to plan.”
