Melbourne airport just got a whole lot more luxurious, if you ask us. Why?

Because Qantas’ new Qantas Club opened it’s doors today, marking the first stage of the domestic lounge redevelopment at Melbourne Airport.

The work on the new Qantas Club and Business Lounge began in January, with construction being completed in stages to allow ongoing lounge access during the build. And now it’s all new and shiny!

The Qantas Club features modern furnishings, a new guest reception, bar, expansive buffet (is there any other kind) and a stunning interior colour palette inspired by the Great Ocean Road. Once completed, it will also offer 10 per cent more seating capacity, with room for around 530 people.

Buffet and Quench

Construction of the Business Lounge will start this week and is set to open to customers in September. Both the Qantas Club and Business Lounge will be completed and fully functional by November.

Combined, the lounges will be able to accommodate around 130 more people. Which means flying out of Melbourne will get a whole lot more luxe (and spacious).

Philip Capps, Qantas head of product strategy and development, said that Melbourne was designed with customer feedback in mind.

“We’re excited to open the first stage of the lounge redevelopment project with a new Qantas Club. Melbourne is one of our busiest ports and we had customer feedback front of mind when we embarked on this comprehensive redesign,” he said.

“Once it’s completed, we are hopeful our Qantas Club members will appreciate the contemporary design and extra seating, and of course the barista coffee.

“We know renovations can be less than ideal, but the build is progressing well, and the end result will be two brand new lounges that will provide a comfortable start to customers’ journeys.”

The Qantas Club and the Qantas Business Lounge are, in fact, different places with different designs and features, but both will include:

  • All-day barista coffee service
  • Seasonal dining with hot and cold menu options
  • Quench hydration station with a selection of premium non-alcoholic beverages and business facilities including wireless printing and high-speed wi-fi
  • An increased number of device-charging access points
  • Service experience by Accor

Just get us somewhere with a buffet, TBH.
