Qantas is set to scrap the expiry dates on flight refunds for customers whose plans were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to reports.
It comes after mounting pressure on the airline which culminated in a spectacular appearance by Qantas CEO Alan Joyce at a senate hearing on Monday.
All Qantas customers who had their flights cancelled by the airline due to lockdowns up until October 2021 will now be able to request an indefinite refund, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, saying “multiple aviation sources who were not authorised to speak publicly,” had confirmed the change to the publication.
The COVID refunds were initially due to expire in December this year.
The change in credit expiry dates will also apply to Jetstar, according to the report.
Currently, there is an estimated $370 million worth of unused credits at Qantas and a further $100 million with Jetstar.
Qantas has been contacted for comment.
