Qantas will further bolster its Asian routes in response to growing demand, with additional changes to its schedule just announced.
The airline will increase the number of services between Melbourne and Singapore from seven to 10 per week from April 29.
The three additional services will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the flight codes QF37 and QF38. Like Qantas’ existing Melbourne-Singapore services, they will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft.
The increase follows last month’s confirmation it would upgrade three of its weekly Melbourne-Hong Kong services to a Boeing 747 from an A330, also from April.
The aircraft freed up by that change will operate the additional Melbourne-Singapore services. These go on sale today.
“We’re seeing Australian companies continue to expand their business in Asia, while the lower dollar is making Australia an even more attractive place to visit,” he said.
“It’s about being agile to adjust to changes in the market where it’s needed – and we’re able to do that by maximising the utilisation of our large, varied fleet. Because this growth is coming from increased fleet utilisation, it is a very cost efficient way to meet that rising demand.”
Evans underlined Asia as a “strategic priority” for the airline.
“We’re going to continue to support Australia’s growth in the region by maximising our fleet, deepening our partnerships, and offering what we believe is the best premium service in the market.”
