Qatar Airways has commenced multiple daily services from Melbourne to its Doha hub to boost options for business travellers.

Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) travel specialist Corporate Traveller says the increased frequency addresses a key gap in the market for companies requiring flexible international schedules and the hope of competition creating lower airfares, as witnessed elsewhere.

The expansion gives Melbourne-based travellers much greater flexibility when planning international trips, with Qatar Airways now offering several convenient departure times.

Adding to the increased capacity, Virgin Australia launches daily Melbourne-Doha services (VA7/VA8) from 1 December, completing its partnership rollout with Qatar Airways after successful launches from Sydney, Brisbane and Perth earlier this year. The services use Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and crew.

Under the partnership arrangement, passengers can book Virgin Australia flight codes but will travel on Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Qatar Airways crew – effectively giving travellers more booking options on the same route.

“This is brilliant news for our SME customers who’ve been asking for more flexibility on Europe and Middle East routes,” Corporate Traveller Australia-based global managing director Tom Walley said.

“Having multiple departure times each day means business travellers can actually choose schedules that work for them, rather than being stuck with limited options.”

The enhanced services expand Qatar Airways’ network to over 170 destinations, offering particularly strong benefits for companies doing business across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The increased competition on Australia-Europe routes also means more options for business travellers, with greater seat availability across different cabin classes – particularly welcome news given the capacity constraints many have faced in recent years.

With Doha positioned as a strategic gateway to Europe and beyond, the expanded services also create strong bleisure opportunities for business travellers. Flight Centre Corporate’s 2025 State of the Market survey shows that around three in four customers reported at least some employees adding leisure to business trips.

“Doha is perfectly positioned for people who want to extend their business trip into Europe or explore the Middle East,” Walley said.

“Qatar’s stopover programme makes it really easy to add a cultural experience without blowing the travel budget.

“For businesses – particularly those in tech, resources, and professional services – the expanded capacity means better connectivity to diverse international markets and more strategic options when planning global travel programmes.

“At the end of the day, this comes down to choice and convenience. Businesses want options that work for their needs, and this expansion delivers exactly that.”
