Designer hotel QT Newcastle opened its doors today, adding a touch of glam to Newcastle’s revitalised East End precinct.
Housed within the heritage-listed 113-year-old former Scotts Limited and David Jones building on Hunter Mall, QT Newcastle draws cues from Newcastle’s storied history.
Featuring 104 guest rooms and suites, the hotel takes design queues from themes of renewal and new beginnings, with an emphasis on first impressions, impact and intrigue.
The QT design team and long-time design collaborator, Nic Graham, reinvigorated the iconic heritage building while respecting and maintaining the raw shell and layering contemporary life within.
Guest rooms and suites feature industrial textures alongside brushed brass accents and designer furnishings, highlighting coastal vibes, natural beauty, and QT’s penchant for the unexpected.
The Clock Suite, housed in the building’s dome and clock face, is the real show stopper, featuring uninterrupted harbour views, enhanced by the suite’s centrepiece restored in its former glory.
QT Hotels & Resorts group general manager, Callum Kennedy, said QT Newcastle is the latest evolution in the QT collection.
“QT Newcastle will live and breathe the same vibrancy and energy guests love from the world of QT, championing luxurious quirk and exciting
collaborations in the Newcastle community,” Kennedy said.
“Rooftop at QT, boasting uninterrupted views across the harbour and signature restaurant Jana, led by Michelin star chef Massimo Speroni, will deliver the ultimate night out for locals and travellers.
“We are also delighted to have recruited a team of local talent that we welcome to the QT family.”
QT’s signature restaurant, Jana, is situated on the ground floor offering an approachable, premium produce-led menu overseen by award-winning executive chef Massimo Speroni.
The menu features dishes such as Hiramasa Kingfish with fresh citrus and Pukara Estate Lamb Backstrap with black garlic jus, sitting proudly alongside a premium steak offering, sourced entirely from local producers.
Rooftop at QT boasts uninterrupted views across the harbour with rooftop revelry meets innovative izakaya, with an extensive cocktail list complemented by a sophisticated local wine offering, and spirit collection featuring Newcastle’s largest library of Japanese Whisky.
