Qatar Airways has launched its first-ever digital destination, QVerse Island, inside the popular video game Fortnite, marking a new push into immersive digital engagement aimed at younger travellers and gamers.
The virtual island reimagines Doha, allowing players to explore key landmarks and elements of the airline’s onboard experience in an interactive gaming environment.
The experience begins at Hamad International Airport, where players meet Sama, Qatar Airways’ digital cabin crew avatar, before travelling across the island to locations including The ORCHARD. Guided by Sama, players complete mission-based challenges across Doha-inspired settings and search for hidden ‘golden tickets’, which unlock chances to win Qatar Airways travel rewards and flights.
Sama already features prominently across the airline’s digital platforms, including its immersive QVerse web experience and brand storytelling initiatives. Her role as an in-game guide is designed to extend Qatar Airways’ digital identity into new virtual spaces and create continuity across its online and experiential touchpoints.
Qatar Airways said the move reflects the growing influence of digital and gaming platforms on travel inspiration and decision-making, allowing the airline to engage with potential travellers earlier in the journey cycle.
The launch also aligns with the airline’s broader investment in next-generation technology, including the rollout of Starlink connectivity across its fleet. Qatar Airways currently operates more than 120 Starlink-enabled aircraft, offering high-speed Wi-Fi on routes across six continents, including Australia and the Americas.
Together, QVerse Island, Sama and Starlink form part of Qatar Airways’ strategy to deliver a more connected, digitally led travel experience that begins well before passengers step onboard.
