Hospitality company Resplendent Ceylon reopened its safari lodge Wild Coast Tented Lodge in the heart of Sri Lanka’s southern wilderness.
Located where the jungle meets the Indian Ocean on the edge of Yala National Park, Wild Coast invites travellers to reconnect with nature through a blend of elevated design, immersive storytelling and experiences.
The reopening of the lodge, which is also a Relais & Châteaux property, comes after implementing enhancements that were designed to enrich every aspect of the guest journey while preserving the property’s distinctive character and deep respect for its natural surroundings. Refreshed interiors embrace the landscape, blurring the boundaries between indoors and out through organic materials, textures and thoughtful design that embody the raw beauty of Sri Lanka’s southeastern coastline.
The Library Cocktail Lounge, an intimate retreat overlooking the wilderness, is one of the lodge’s new additions that brings handcrafted cocktails, local stories and quiet moments together. Another addition is The Oculus, a new architectural space housing both geological history and physical wellness with the Fossil Room and the Quarry Gym.
While Yala’s leopard safaris remain the main attraction of the Wild Coast experience, the reopening expands with new heritage-led experiences beyond the national park, such as the exploration of the ancient monastery of Sithulpawwa alongside curated cultural encounters that reveal the traditions, history and communities that have molded Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Traditional Sri Lankan ceremonies that honoured the region’s vibrant cultural heritage commenced during the reopening of the lodge. The ceremonies included captivating performances from Wes and peacock dancers, and a ceremonial milk boiling ritual symbolising prosperity, abundance and new beginnings.
Resplendent Ceylon is the sole Sri Lankan member of Relais & Châteaux and offers travellers a remarkable circuit across Sri Lanka, with a collection of small, luxury resorts, each set in scenic and environmentally outstanding locations.
